This is a smart looking and very useful, French 19Th. c. Aesthetic movement Bamboo & Glass Cabinet, 1880-1900
The structural frame consists of thick, natural bamboo poles heat-treated with a traditional techniques.
Inner wood shelving and backboards are lined with textured pressed paper, featuring heavily embossed gilt Red floral scrollwork against a deep burgundy background.
The top is an Asian lacquered board and a small mirror in the center under the Pagoda pediment.
This large cabinet is secured with small brass pin nails and traditional dowel pins typical of late 19th-century Anglo-Japanese production.
Clear, hand-blown float glass panels are fitted into the door frame and both side return panels to maximize visibility.
This furniture style grew out of the Japonisme craze that swept Great Britain and France following the opening of Japanese trade borders.
